Open Sided Carports
Protect and access your vehicle with ease with one of our Open Sided Carports
Shields Buildings are delighted to announce the latest product offering to their extensive range of bespoke timber garden buildings. We have designed an attractive Open Sided Carport to give you all the protection you need for your vehicles, whilst not totally obstructing your views.
So how did this come about? Well, the answer’s simple. If you live in a gorgeous place, surrounded by a lovely garden a standard garage would obstruct your view. Several customers had come to us with this issue, so not being one to shy away from a new project, John called in the team and put their heads together to come up with an impressive solution
Open Sided Carport - BENEFITS & HIGHLIGHTS
The Open Sided Carport can be made as a single, double or triple to suit your needs and is built to the same high standards as all the Shields Buildings products. We’re currently offering a selection of sizes:
- Single (6m x 3m)
- Double (6m x 5m)
- Large Double (6.5m x 5m or 6m x 6m)
- Triple (9m x 5m)
Open sided carports are fairly different from our usual products. At the risk of sounding a little simplistic, the main difference is that they don’t have walls.
That means that the roof needs support from different areas and the whole thing is engineered in a very different way as a result. We use solid braced Douglas fir timber posts mounted on concrete plinths with the gable ends made from tanalised redwood cladding.
When it comes to the roof, you can choose between:
- Plastisol steel sheeting
- Synthetic slate
Will an open sided carport actually provide my car with protection?
Not just your car, but you too! Say goodbye to that horrible feeling of rain pounding against your face while you’re trying to get your things out of the car and locked up.
Is a carport as versatile as a garage?
More so! The roof and open sides won’t just provide a convenient respite from the elements for cars, they’ll do the same for people too.
Carports also make handy play areas, or protection for bbq stations throughout the summer months.
Open Sided Carport - FEATURED CASE STUDY
Mr Barker and his partner were moving to a new build in North Tawton and had their heart set on an outdoor socialising area, which provided shade, while still allowing them to enjoy the warm weather.
Mr B had fond memories of a similar structure that his Nan had, which she’d always called a “loggia”.
After an initial call they came to see us at the display to discuss their plans – while our previous open-sided structures had all been for car parking, it was straightforward enough to modify the design to suit a garden structure.
"Great service from start to finish. The whole process was efficient and ran on time. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a good quality bespoke building. Shields Buildings deliver exactly what it say's on the tin - Thank You."
Mr B's loggiaHaving a lovely house and garden, Helen didn’t want the view ruined by a solid garage, but she did need somewhere to protect their cars from the weather. It was also key that the carport complemented the house, rather than looking like the odd one out.
"Once again, I must say how pleased we are with both the carport and the summerhouse. Not only are they perfectly designed for the job they do, as buildings they are also extremely handsome to look at and have been much admired. Please convey our thanks once again to all your team."
