Working from home without working at home

Working from home has a wide variety of benefits. According to a white paper produced by Microsoft in 2011, the top benefits listed in a survey of over 4000 office workers in various different roles are as follows:

Timber office

It's more environmentally friendly. This ties in with three of the other benefits listed - that you use less petrol and spend less time commuting or in traffic. You can spend more time with your family. Your home is seen a significantly less stressful environment than the average workplace. The atmosphere is quieter, and you have fewer distractions. You can be more productive and overall, your work/life balance is easier to manage and maintain.

Technology and the internet are continuing to revolutionise every aspect of our lives, and our work lives are no exception. The fact that you can now log on securely to your business mainframe from any remote location that has an internet connection means that you can work anywhere in the world. So why not choose the comfort of your own home?

Well, the most common issue that people come up against is space. Most people don't just have a spare room that they can dedicate entirely to work. You might find yourself working from the dining room table or sofa, and having to unpack and pack up your files and paperwork at the start and end of each working day.

Or, you find that you are often interrupted or distracted by the general comings and goings of your household. You then decide to use a local coffee shop to get enough peace and space, but this defeats the object of not having to go to work! Your 'office' may be closer to your house but it is not the same as having your own dedicated workspace right at home.

Beautiful timber offices built in your garden

The solution that's becoming ever-more popular is to have a separate office built in your back garden, which means you are away from the house but still in your property. It's a win-win situation. You get all the benefits of being at home, yet you can easily shut yourself away to focus on what needs doing. And at the end of the day, you can leave everything where it is so it's ready for you tomorrow.

Shields Buildings aims to make working from home as easy as possible by providing timber offices that are energy efficient, space efficient and secure. We also know there are certain things you just can't do without in an office, such as power points, phone sockets, good lighting, heating, and insulation, so these come as standard.

When you have one of our beautiful timber offices built in your garden, you'll find yourself with a commute that involves nothing more taxing than walking across your lawn. Your time will be your own and lunch break consists of walking into to your house and checking in your own fridge. What could be easier?
