Don’t point that at me

Well, it’s time to say hello to August, and the drizzle which seems to come as a package deal these days. I don’t like to moan about the weather more than your average Brit – we need a little to keep us going, I think – but I have had just about enough of looking out of the window first thing in the morning only to confirm more of the same.

And thankfully, we haven’t even had family to stay in recent weeks, as I know many of my friends have. Having people round when the weather’s glorious is a very different proposition: put some chairs in the garden, give the children somewhere to run around (while keeping an eye on where they’re pointing the super soaker), and Bob’s your uncle.

When it’s raining?  A whole lot harder.

I hate to be a doom mongerer, but on the basis that August has been rather iffy for a few years now, it might be time to stop thinking that a glorious August will emerge, and start making plans for how you make the best of it, regardless of the weather.

And with that in mind, I want to ask:
