Can We Visit? How to See our Garden Building Display Site

Come and Visit Shields Garden Building Showroom

One question we’re often asked is… where can we visit you? Do you have a display site or showroom? Or sometimes it’s ‘can we visit you’ – well, the answer to that is absolutely! We love having visitors.

Our display site is open all day, every day! Our office is open weekdays from 9-5. You can either turn up on the day or book an appointment in advance.

We always welcome visitors at the weekend, but we do advise making an appointment as we can be busy doing other things.

You can find us at de Bathe Farm, North Tawton, Devon, EX20 2BE.

Your sat nav might not bring you right to us. So, just in case, here are some instructions:

On the A30 at Whiddon Down we are 5 miles north on the A3124. Pass under the brown steel railway bridge and you will find us 300m up the hill on the left. From the A3072 turn down the hill towards Whiddon Down at de Bathe Cross. We are 200m on the right.

What Have You Got On Site?

Our display site shows the full range of buildings we have on offer, which are all bespoke and made to order.

If you’re thinking about a wooden garden building (or our brand new ZERO range!) then it’s worth popping down to see what they look like in reality.

If you’re anything like us, then it's always great to see the real thing.

In fact, rather than us talking about it, it’d be much more helpful to give you a taste of what we’ve got on-site… right?

Where Are You Based?

de Bathe Farm has been our home for generations. We’ve farmed the land for more than 100 years and we’re proud to create great spaces on that very same land today.

30 years ago, realised that our knack for creating outdoor structures and timber buildings for farming could be more than just a means to an end…

Which is when Shields Buildings was born and we moved from creating stables for animals, silos for grain and offices for our workers to creating bespoke wooden garden and outdoor buildings that stand the test of time.

We’re proud of our history, heritage and de Bathe Farm and we’re always happy to share that experience with you.

It’s a big part of what we do and these days, we’re busy making timber (and ZERO) garden buildings to order all over Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset and beyond.

We’d advise booking an appointment if you’re popping along on a weekend (or even on a weekday if you want to make sure you’ve got our undivided attention!)

Shields Customer Reviews

Here's what our customers have said about visiting the display site.

Mike Simmonds:

“From our initial visit to the North Tawton display site, to signing off the finished project, we could not have been more impressed with Shields Buildings.

There was no showroom hassling or desperate ‘sign-on-the day’ sales technique, just patient, honest, professional advice, and guidance from Paul. We opted for a combined workshop and log store with a couple of options to suit us (2x roof lights and double doors - both superb).

Following a site visit to our home to check suitability of the ground (a tricky slate bedrock), the workshop was completed in three days, including base preparation.

The three installers were friendly, polite, professional, and incredibly hard working. We’re so pleased we went with Shields and have no hesitation recommending the company.”

J Chant:

“I am the new owner of a Shields workshop and I could not be more pleased. Being able to see the quality of the building at the show site was a key factor in our purchase decision.

Paul (Gent) and John (Shields) made us very welcome, answered all our questions patiently and were flexible to accommodate our fine-tuning requests."

Paul Quinton:

“We found Shields via Google and had no previous dealings with them.

Whilst house hunting in Cornwall we visited their showroom/yard/offices in Devon to view carports. From the outset Paul Gent was incredibly helpful, providing advice regarding the base and all the preliminary matters.

Paul and Shields support continued through to completion of the building. Throughout construction, the Shields on-site team worked incredibly hard over 4 days during some horrendous weather conditions.

They were a pleasure to have around. The end product, a two-port oak fronted garage and log store extension is brilliant. Very happy with the quality of the product and the team. Would definitely recommend Shields and wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.”
