Tracy came along to one of our monthly open days and gave us her brief. When she moved to a new home in Bideford, she needed somewhere to burrow away and keep up with her first great love: pottery. We got to work preparing a quote and drawings of the little workshop/studio that would soon become her garden solace.
Price was important in this project. So we agreed together that the studio walls would have no insulation, as it’s easy to add it in at a later date if needed.
John Shields suggested insulating the floor though, since that can’t be done retrospectively. With an insulated floor and double glazing, Tracy’s plenty warm enough for now.
Space was limited but the timber building had to look right in the garden. The studio sits against the boundary, so to comply with planning laws we made sure the overall height was less than 2.5m.
With a pent roof and a rectangular design for the body of the building, we hit the brief – and it looks great!
On time, on budget, this building is the bright and roomy workspace that Tracy was looking for. And there’s even room for storage and a kiln too. These days, Tracy’s happily spending hour after hour in the Pottery Studio, keeping up with her art and honing her talent.
