Here’s why You Should Choose Shields for Your Bespoke Garden Building
Who you work with is as important as what you work with.
That’s true in your professional life and it’s true when it comes to projects like a new garden building, too.
Because no matter how good the product is, if the service isn’t just as good, you’re going to be disappointed…
And that’s why at Shields Buildings, we value every part of the process – from concept to delivery and installation.
So, the big question is…
What Is It Like Working With Shields Buildings?
Step one in the process is deciding you want a timber garden building – and that’s a big step.
But it is only the first step!
After that, we’ll work with you every step of the way to ensure you get the garden building you want.
For the sake of ease, we’ll call deciding that you want a timber garden building the preparation, which means that step one is…
Who are Shields Buildings?
1. We Start with The Brief
For both us and you, it’s vital that we understand exactly what you want.
The last thing anyone wants to do is make assumptions, which is why we outline all of the specifications. All of our buildings are bespoke and handmade to your exact requirements, so it is no problem if you want to make tweaks here and there.
There are no set sizes and designs, so you really can go your way with it!
This is where our extensive knowledge of planning permission, electrical supplies and various considerations you need to be aware of with garden buildings come into play.
We’re detail-orientated, which means we’ll dot all of the i’s and cross all of the t’s before we move forward.
2. Next up is the Quote
Once we’ve established all of the details, we’re able to create a personal quotation based on the discussions we’ve had about the size and specifications of your building.
This will be fully itemised and contain everything you need to know about your timber garden building (or your ZERO garden building!).
That includes:
- The base
- Accessories
- Optional extras
- Price
- Terms of payment
Plus, delivery and installation are also included in your quote, so there’s no need to worry about that being tacked on further down the line!
3. The Technical Drawings
Some people like the technical stuff and for others it’s not a priority.
But it’s important that you know precisely what you’re getting with your garden building, so we provide a set of scale CAD drawings.
It means you can see all of your dimensions, and how it’ll fit in your garden. It might even help you realise that you want to make some tweaks to where it will sit, the size, or anything to do with the reality of your building.
Once you’ve made any changes or decided to proceed, we’re onto the serious stuff…
4. Construction Time
At this point, it’s all systems go.
Imagine Bob the Builder calling in Scoop, Muck, and Dizzy and cracking on. That’s pretty much how we’ll be, except there will be more humans and less autonomous building machinery.
Your timber building is custom-made for you in our workshops here at de Bathe Farm, Devon, by our experienced team.
All of the timber cladding we use in your garden building is the highest grade, pressure-treated redwood timber from renewable sources.
Once we’ve completed the construction process, we’ll be in touch.
5. We’re All About Communication
When we get in touch, it’ll be for important milestones in the process!
Although if you do fancy a chat, we’re always armed with a cuppa and biscuits down at de Bathe Farm.
Once you’ve placed your order, we’ll keep you updated on our progress and stay in regular contact so that we can agree on an installation date.
If it’s not already been done, we’ll pop along for a site visit and confirm all the details with you before the installation date.
That means we’ll iron out any details we need to sort before we turn up to install your new garden building, including the provision of an electrical supply if it’s needed.
That way, we can get on with the fun bit, which is…

6. Installation Time
Now the fun begins.
Our project managers will keep you updated with what’s going on throughout the process.
If you need anything along the way, we’ll ensure you get it.
For example, if you need a concrete base and you’re preparing it yourself, we’ll provide you with a base plan and work with you to ensure it’s suitable and ready for your installation date.
And then we’ll pop out to check it’s ok!
We’ll come out on the agreed installation date and ensure all the work is completed in a timely and orderly manner, keeping you updated on our progress.
Once we’re done, it’s over to you to begin enjoying your brand-new Shields garden building for years to come.
7. Aftersales Service
Once we’re done, we’re not done!
We’re committed to ensuring you have the best possible experience from day one until the very end, which means ensuring everything has gone smoothly.
After installation, we’ll be in touch to ensure that you’re happy with your garden building and the entire process with our aftercare support.
Our goal is to make sure you get what you want with your garden building in the best possible way – that includes the quality of the product, the quality of service, and the quality of expertise along the way.
