Discover Your Creative Sanctuary: Hobby Rooms By Shields Buildings

A person practices yoga in the downward dog position inside a modern garden room with large glass doors, next to a tree and outdoor hanging chair on a tiled patio.

Everyone needs their space – a place to unwind, to create, to escape the buzz and tap into something personal. That’s why Shields Buildings are more than just structures; they’re creative sanctuaries designed with your hobbies in mind. Whether you’re an artist with a vision, a potter at the wheel, or a model railway enthusiast mapping out miniature adventures, our timber buildings make it all possible. Our specialist garden rooms Devon constructions provide the perfect environment for pursuing your creative passions in comfort and style.

Art Studios: Let The Light In

From brush strokes to bold canvases, artists thrive in natural light and calm. Our buildings are built to specification, allowing for large windows, clean interior finishes, and layouts that suit your flow. Customers love using their Shields Garden Buildings as painting studios – and one recent case study featured a Devon based artist who transformed her timber room into a light-filled hideaway, complete with built-in storage and skylights.

“It’s changed how I work—I used to squeeze my easel into the spare room, but now I have the space and light to paint freely. It’s my creative haven.”

Pottery Studios: A Mess Friendly Haven

Clay and creativity go hand in hand – but they’re not exactly housemates you want in your living room!

One happy customer recently turned her Shields Building into a fully operational pottery studio, adding shelves for glazes, waterproof flooring, and even electrical points for her kiln. Because each project is bespoke, we tailored the size and interior to suit her tools and workflow.

“I wanted somewhere peaceful but practical – and Shields delivered. The kiln fits perfectly, and the mess stays exactly where it belongs!”

Model Railway Rooms: Full Steam Ahead

You need space, power, and precision. Welcome to the ideal set-up for a model railway enthusiast. A North Devon client recently built a room with extra depth to accommodate his growing railway network, and we worked with him to ensure that insulation and moisture control were in place to protect delicate models. With garden rooms Devon, bespoke wooden car garages, and shelter for cars, we can create versatile spaces for all needs, and we always provide clear planning permission guidance to make the process straightforward.

“Building my railway room with Shields was like laying the first track—it set everything in motion. It’s now my go-to escape.”
