When Mr and Mrs D visited our display site, they already had a clear vision: a space that could balance both practicality and creativity: a combined workshop and art studio.
After chatting through ideas with our team, the plans began to take shape, and we began turning the vision into reality.
Together, we refined the design, incorporating a few bespoke touches, including a neatmatch effect internal lining to the art studio roof at Mrs Ds’ request. It was a first for us here at Shields Buildings, and a great example of how truly tailored each project can be.
Overcoming Obstacles
This build came with a few logistical hurdles, all of which our team managed from start to finish.
The existing garage needed to be dismantled and removed before work could begin, and we also re-tiled the remaining garage edge to ensure it stayed structurally sound.
With the new building positioned close to a hedge, we offered some practical cost-saving advice: leaving the hidden right and rear elevations unpainted and opting for durable plastisol-coated steel roofing at the rear, while finishing the front elevation in synthetic slate. The result is a smart, durable finish that looks great where it matters most.
The site’s sloping driveway added another layer of complexity, so our team designed and installed steps to both the workshop and studio entrances, ensuring safe and easy access while retaining the overall look and feel.
What Was Achieved
The finished Combination Studio strikes the perfect balance between usability and inspiration: a warm, fully insulated art studio for her, and a practical workshop for him.
Every detail was designed to blend with the property’s surroundings, including colour-matching the existing garage and using slate-effect roofing on the front elevation to tie the two structures together.
